Portland Jetport Upgrades to
RapidFIDS on LINUX

Portland International Jetport (PWM) in Maine has upgraded their Flight Information Display System (FIDS) to the latest InterSystems RapidFIDS based on the Linux operating system.

InterSystems has provided several information solutions to Portland Jetport since 1999. Most recently, the Jetport recognized the need to upgrade their FIDS system and selected the latest version of InterSystems' RapidFIDS on Linux.

In addition to the RapidFIDS Linux servers, InterSystems installed its latest Graphic Monitor Controller, the GMC6. Based on an embedded Linux operating system, the new GMC6 introduces innovative hardware technology that eliminates all moving parts in the controller, benefiting the Jetport with lower initial investment and saving on long-term maintenance cost.

Mr. Paul H. Bradbury, P.E, Facilities & Engineering Manager at Portland Jetport commentedWe are impressed by the smooth transition of RapidFIDS to the new LINUX-based system and the stability of the new products. InterSystems was able to complete the upgrade in less than 3 months. We can see improved performance and we are able to display more graphic and HTML pages on our monitors."

Linux operating systems is supported by some of the major players in the market (such as IBM, Oracle, SUN, DELL and HP) as a platform suitable for mission-critical business applications. The Linux solution installed by InterSystems at the Jetport has proven to be a mature and reliable system.
